Function of electric air compressor
The electric air compressor pumps compressed air into the brake system of the parking brake only when the engine is running . The air compressor is regulated by two pressure switches to ensure the correct operating pressure is maintained in the system.
Moisture is drawn out of the compressed air by a single-chamber air drier with heater. The air drier is regenerated each time the air compressor is switched off. To do this, approx. 0.5 liters of air flows from the compressed air reservoir, via a throttle valve through the air compressor and a 2-directional control valve to the outside.
The electric air compressor is fused by means of a 40A fuse near the electrical center.
A thermal switch integrated in the air compressor protects the air compressor against overheating. The thermal switch is activated if the air compressor is continuously operated as a result of a technical fault and therefore reaches a temperature of 90° degrees.
