Checking

1 Clamp refrigerant compressor in a vise.

 Use two aluminum protective jaws.

2 Position  dial indicator holder with  dial indicator such that tracer pin of  dial indicator rests next to a rivet on pressure plate (1) when under tension (arrow).

3  Move dial indicator to zero position.

4 Connect crocodile clip (a) and female disconnect (b) of shop-made adapter cable to electrical connections of solenoid.

5 Connect adapter cable to a DC voltage source with 24 V.

6 Read off measurement for axial play of pressure plate (1) on the  dial indicator.

7 Repeat measuring procedure at two additional points of the pressure plate (1) in the same manner.

8 Determine mean value from the three measured values and compare against the specified value.

 If the mean value is not within the specified tolerance range, then the axial play of the pressure plate (1) must be adjusted.

9 Detach the adapter cable from the DC voltage source.

10 Remove adapter cable and  dial indicator holder with  dial indicator from refrigerant compressor.

Adjust

11 Remove pressure plate (1).

 Counterhold pressure plate (1) with  puller (20). If the pressure plate (1) is stuck in place, use the shop-made bolt to detach the pressure plate (1).

12 Adjust axial play of pressure plate (1) using spacers (2).

 The spacers (2) are included in the "Connector parts kit".

13 Install pressure plate (1)  .

 Counterhold pressure plate (1) with  puller (20).

14 Check axial play of pressure plate (1) again.

 Repeat testing and adjustment operations until the determined value is within the tolerance range.
