Modification notes
| Remove/install | ||
Danger! | Risk of explosion caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained.
| Procedure for a damaged or leaky air conditioning system | ||
| Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work | All models with air conditioning | |
| Notes on handling R134a refrigerant | All models with R134a refrigerant | |
1 | Drain air conditioning system (recycle refrigerant), evacuate, fill, inspect for leaks | When filling the air conditioning, feed extracted compressor oil quantity back into the refrigerant circuit
2 | Remove left fender liner (front section) in fender liner
3 | Disconnect electrical connector (1) | To remove, press in safety spring
4 | Unscrew pressure line (2)
Seal openings (parts kit) Replace O-rings (moisten with compressor oil)
5 | Loosen refrigerant pressure sensor (B12)
6 | Unscrew pressure line (3)
Seal openings (parts kit) Replace O-rings (moisten with compressor oil)
7 | Unscrew mounting nuts (4)
8 | Remove fluid reservoir | In the event of air conditioning failure due to leaks, contamination or ice formation, when repairing or exchanging the refrigerant compressor, a new fluid reservoir has to be installed Installation: Replace O-rings (moisten with compressor oil).
When replacing the receiver/drier add the prescribed amount of refrigeration oil.
9 | Unscrew refrigerant pressure sensor (B12)
10 | Install in the reverse order
11 | Switch on the air conditioner and allow the engine to idle for roughly 4 minutes. | Set temperature selector wheels to blue Blowers to max.
12 | Check air conditioning for proper operation | The air outlet temperature at the center air vent may not sink below +5 °C, or
perform diagnosis according to diagnosis manual
13 | Inspect the air conditioning circuit for leaks | Air conditioning system leak detector |
