Danger! | Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on sealed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained.
| Conduct if air conditioning system is damaged or leaking | ||
| Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work | ||
| Notes on handling refrigerant R134a | ||
1 | Drain air conditioning system | Installation: Evacuate, refill and check air conditioner for leaks and proper operation.
2.1 | Remove air filter housing | With engine 266.9
3 | Unscrew nut (2) | | |
4 | Remove high-pressure line (3) from expansion valve (1) | Installation: Replace sealing ring of high-pressure line (3) and moisten with compressor oil.
5 | Seal opening on high pressure line (3) using suitable stop plug | The opening of the high pressure line (3) must be sealed, as otherwise penetrating dirt and moisture can damage the components connected to the refrigerant circuit.
6 | Remove low-pressure line (4) from expansion valve (1) | Installation: Renew sealing ring of low-pressure line (4) and wet with compressor oil.
7 | Close opening of low-pressure line (4) and openings of expansion valve (1) using suitable stop plugs | The opening of the low-pressure line (4) and openings of the expansion valve (1) must be sealed, as otherwise any penetrating dirt and moisture can damage components connected to the refrigerant circuit.
8 | Remove screws/bolts (5) and remove expansion valve (1) | Installation: Turn in bolts (5) alternately, as otherwise the expansion valve (1) connection to connection fittings can be tilted (6).
Installation: If the thread of the screws (5) does not engage, pull out tapping plate (8) using pulling hooks, hold in place and turn in screws (5).

| |||
9 | Remove sealing rings (7) and close opening of connection fittings (6) using suitable stop plug | The openings of the connection fittings (6) must be sealed, as otherwise penetrating dirt and moisture can damage the components connected to the refrigerant circuit.
Installation: Replace sealing rings (7) and moisten with compressor oil.
10 | Install in the reverse order |
