Modification notes
| Remove/Install | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury. Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. | Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts.
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure. Risk of poisoning from swallowing hydraulic fluid. | Depressurize the hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system. Wear protective clothing and eye protection.
Danger! | Risk of injury from pinching or squeezing when working on partially open Vario roof (stop mode) or in its closing area as a result of the Vario roof suddenly collapsing | Secure Vario roof with a suitable special tool.
| Notes for carrying out assembly operations on Vario roof | ||
1.1 | Remove left side paneling in trunk | When removing left Vario roof actuation hydraulic cylinder (10)
2.1 | Remove right side paneling in trunk | When removing right Vario roof actuation hydraulic cylinder (10)
3 | Switch on ignition and open Vario roof with soft top switch | Leave trunk lid pivoted toward rear.
4 | Unscrew screws (1) and take off cover (2)
5 | Unscrew screws (3, 4) and detach paneling (5)
6 | Close Vario roof with the soft top switch
7 | Pivot trunk lid toward rear with soft top switch | Then switch off ignition.
8 | Unlock trunk lid in trunk lid lock by hand and move upward
9 | Remove retaining clip (6) and bolt (7)
10 | Remove retaining ring (8) and bolt (9)
11 | Expose hydraulic lines no. 41 and no. 42 when removing right Vario roof actuation hydraulic cylinder (10) and hydraulic lines no. 43 and no. 44 when removing left Vario roof actuation hydraulic cylinder (10) up to soft top actuation hydraulic unit. | Mark installation position of hydraulic lines and electrical leads tied to hydraulic lines: Installation: Observe markings of installation position.
12 | Separate hydraulic lines no. 41 and no. 42 when removing right Vario roof actuation hydraulic cylinder (10) and hydraulic lines no. 43 and no. 44 when removing left Vario roof actuation hydraulic cylinder (10) from soft top actuation hydraulic unit. | When separating hold a rag around the hydraulic line connections to prevent hydraulic oil from running out.Immediately plug connections on the hydraulic lines and on the soft top actuation hydraulic unit with appropriate plug. Pressure is still present in hydraulic lines when Vario roof has been moved with the roof switch and the ignition is not switched off.
| |||
Installation: Observe line coding of hydraulic lines when connecting.
13 | Remove Vario roof actuation hydraulic cylinder (10) together with hydraulic lines from Vario roof
14 | Install in the reverse order
15 | Check oil level of soft top actuation hydraulic unit, correct |
