| Remove/install | ||
1 | Remove upper liftgate paneling | ||
2 | Mechanically lock rotary tumbler on liftgate lock with suitable screwdriver | Otherwise, the liftgate (1) can no longer be opened when the electrical lines are disconnected. | |
Installation: Before adjusting liftgate (1), release rotary tumbler on liftgate latch. | |||
3 | Remove both covers (2) from hinges | ||
4 | Pull both grommets (3) out of liftgate (1) | | |
Installation: Make sure that grommets (3) are seated correctly. | |||
5 | Remove ground lines (4) | ||

6 | Disconnect electrical connectors from left electrical wiring harness (5) and right electrical wiring harness (6) | The number of electrical connectors may vary depending on the equipment. | |
7 | Expose left electrical wiring harness (5) and right electrical wiring harness (6) on liftgate (1) | Note installation position of left electrical wiring harness (5) and right electrical wiring harness (6). | |
8 | Guide left electrical wiring harness (5) and right electrical wiring harness (6) out of liftgate (1) | | |
9 | Remove gas-filled strut from liftgate (1) | ||

10 | Remove drive unit of liftgate (1) | Model 253.3 | |
11 | Unscrew bolts (7) and remove liftgate (1) | Installation: Only tighten bolts (7) after adjusting liftgate (1). | |
