Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove bottom engine compartment paneling

Separate plug connections of lambda and diagnostic sensors

Support exhaust system with transmission jack and transmission platform



Unscrew copper nuts (11/2) from bracket at transmission

 Installation: Replace copper nuts.

Unscrew bolts (11/1) of flange connection of front exhaust system from exhaust manifold

 Installation: Install new bolts (11/1).

If thread in exhaust manifold is
damaged: 

Replace rivet nuts in the exhaust manifold.

Detach vacuum hose from switchover valve of exhaust flap (Y93)

If cylinder shutoff code 479 fitted.

Remove cross strut (35) together with rubber mount (9/1)

Remove rubber mount (9/2)

Unscrew bolts (11/5) and remove rubber mount (9/4)

 Installation: Inspect exhaust rubber mount (9/4) for damage, replace if required.

Unscrew bolts (11/4) and nuts (11/3) and remove rubber mount (9/3)

 Installation: Inspect exhaust rubber mount (9/3) for damage, replace if required.

Lower transmission jack and lift out exhaust system

Install in the reverse order

Inspect installation position and clearance of exhaust system

 Install exhaust system free of stress.

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the running engine

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run

 Inspect exhaust system for leaks.
