Danger | Risk of explosion caused by escaping hydrogen or overheating of the fuel tanks when working on the hydrogen system. Risk of frostbite to body parts caused by escaping gas and by touching component parts carrying gas when emptying fuel tanks. Risk of asphyxiation caused by inhalation of air diluted by hydrogen. Risk of burn injuries by coming into contact with an invisible pale blue hydrogen flame.

Notes on safety-relevant components
Preparing the vehicle | |||
1 | Park vehicle in the open air, and secure it against unauthorized access and mark it, and let it discharge of its own accord.
| Warning sign for fuel cell vehicles, form | ||
If a high leakage level is discovered in the fuel system, do not drive the vehicle to the workshop.
Comply with the safety clearance of > 10 m from buildings.
When no more airflow noises are audible,
| |||
Perform quick test for leaks
When the measured hydrogen concentration is < 8000 ppm (an no earlier), perform the remaining work steps.
2 | Activate high-voltage disconnect device (S7), as shown in picture sequence (A, B, C), and lock it with a shackle-type lock. | Installation:
For the electrical interruption of the tank components.
Commercially available devices/tools explosion-proof flashlight, comparable with AccuLux flashlight MHL 5 EX of the company Witte + Sutor GmbH.
If a high leakage level is discovered in the fuel system, do not drive the vehicle to the workshop.
Keep the key for the shackle-type lock of the high-voltage disconnect device (S7) in a separate location accessible to authorized personnel only.
3 | Seal manual valves (1, 2) on both fuel tanks. | Commercially available devices/tools explosion-proof flashlight, comparable with AccuLux flashlight MHL 5 EX of the company Witte + Sutor GmbH.
The manual valves (1, 2) can be reached without lifting the vehicle and without removing the underfloor paneling.
If a high leakage level is discovered in the fuel system, do not drive the vehicle to the workshop.
Torque for sealing of manual valve in valve unit
4 | Localize leakage on fuel cell system.
If, during localization of the leak, a leak is discovered on a fuel tank or the connection to the fuel tank's valve,
| |||
Notify the responsible market support department immediately. |
