| Removing and installing | ||
| All sealing washers are to be replaced when installing, after assembly, check for tightness | ||
1 | Turn off the main switch or disconnect the battery ground lead | Unscrew the negative lead bolt at the side rail, avoid removal at battery post terminals. | |
2.1 | Tilt the cab. | Vehicles with chassis 682.0, 682.1, 693.0 and 693.1. | |
2.2 | Tilt the engine hood. | Chassis vehicles 384.0, 386.0, 694.0 and 695.0. | |
2.3 | Open the front cover | Vehicles with 688.1 chassis. | |
Actuate the locking lever under the dashboard at left side and lift the cover. | |||
3.1 | Remove engine hood inside the vehicle cab. | Vehicles with 688.1 chassis. | |
Loosen the side catches (on both sides) and remove the internal engine hood. | |||
Installing: Check the rubber gasket and if necessary, replace it. | |||

4 | Remove the bolts (4) of the inlet (5) and outlet (5a) pipe connections | Installing: Tighten the bolts to the specified tightening torque. | |
5 | Remove the bolts (3) attaching the fuel pump (1) to the injection pump (2) | Installing: Apply a new sealing gasket. | |
6 | Remove the fuel pump (1) | Installing:Check the rubber gasket of the filter bowl (6) for tightness and if necessary, replace it. | |
7 | Install in reverse order | After installing, bleed the fuel system by slackening the hollow bolt (8) of one turn, unscrew the handle (7) of the supply pump (1) and actuate it until fuel flows out free of air bubbles. Once the bleeding is finished, tighten the handle (7), the hollow bolt (8) and for its tightness. | |

On vehicles where the manual fuel pump is away from the fuel supply pump, bleeding takes place the same way. |
