| Remove/install | ||
1 | Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).
2 | Remove cover above brake fluid expansion reservoir.
3 | Clean area around cap on brake fluid expansion reservoir. | Assembly cleaner
4 | Unscrew cap on brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid. | This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the brake piston is pushed back.
5 | Remove corresponding wheel and tire assembly.
6 | Disconnect right front brake wear sensor electrical connector (S10/2x1) for right front brake wear sensor (S10/2). | If the brakepads (3) on the right side of the vehicle are removed.
7 | Remove screw (6) and remove tie bar (7). | If a tie bar (7) is present.

8 | Knock out retaining pins (1) using punch and remove retaining spring (2). | Installation: Drive in retaining pins (1) up to the end stop.
9 | Pull brakepads (3) out of brake caliper (4). | Installation:
Pry out seized brake linings (3) using a lever.
Installation: Only install brakepads (3) approved by Mercedes-Benz as a set.

15 | Pull right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) out of backing plate of brakepad (3). | If the brakepads (3) are replaced or the right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) is replaced.
Installation: Replace the defective right front brake wear sensor (S10/2).
16 | Install in the reverse order.
Danger | Risk of accident when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. | Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.
17 | Depress brake pedal several times until the brakepads (3) lie against the brake disks (5). | Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
| Check | ||
18 | Check fluid level in expansion reservoir for brake fluid.
