Caution | Risk of poisoning from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with brake fluid | Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.
Warning | Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.

| Remove/install | ||
1 | Move brake pads (10) of the rear axle into assembly position
| |||
The engine hood must be closed.
2 | Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key
| Clean | ||
3 | Clean area surrounding the cap of the brake fluid expansion reservoir | Assembly cleaner
4 | Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid | This prevents the brake fluid expansion reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.
5 | Detach corresponding complete wheel
6 | Disconnect right rear brake wear sensor electrical connector (S10/4x1) from right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4) | When removing brake caliper (3) on right side of vehicle.
7 | Remove bolt (4) and remove electrical connector of the right rear brake pad wear sensor (S10/4x1) | When removing brake caliper (3) on right side of vehicle.
Screw/bolt, brake wear sensor to brake caliper
8 | Unhook electric line (16) from right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2) | When removing brake caliper (3) on right side of vehicle.
9 | Detach electrical connection from left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2) | When replacing brake caliper (3).
10 | Remove bolt (1) | Counterhold guide pin (5).
Guide pin to brake caliper support or bolt for guide pin to brake caliper
11 | Remove brake hose (6) | When replacing brake caliper (3).
| |||
Record plug | |||
12 | Detach brake caliper (3) from brake caliper support (2) | Installation: Guide the right rear brake wear sensor (S10/4) through the opening of the brake caliper (3).
13 | Press back brake piston using pusher tool (01) | When reusing brake caliper (3).
Resetting device | |||
If brake piston is sluggish
| |||
Replace brake caliper (3)
14 | Remove left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2) from the brake caliper (3) | When replacing brake caliper (3).
15 | Remove brake lining (10) from brake caliper support (2) | When removing the brake caliper support (2).
Installation: Only sets of brake linings (10) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed. Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the brake linings (10) and brake calipers (3).
16 | Pull right rear brake lining wear sensor (S10/4) out of brake lining (10) | When replacing brake linings (10) on right side of vehicle.
Installation: Replace defective right rear brake lining wear sensor (S10/4).
17 | Remove spring steel sheets (11) from brake caliper support (2) | When removing the brake caliper support (2).
18 | Remove bolts (15) and remove brake caliper support (2) | When removing the brake caliper support (2).
Bolt, brake caliper/brake caliper support to wheel carrier
| Check | ||
19 | Check brake caliper (3) and dust boot (13) on brake piston for damage | If damage is present
| |||
Replace brake caliper (3)
20 | Check boots (12) for damage and correct seat | If damage is present
| |||
Replace brake caliper support (2)
21 | Check guide pin (5) for ease of movement | If damage is present
| |||
Replace brake caliper support (2)
| Clean | ||
22 | Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (10) on brake caliper (3) and on brake caliper support (2)
Assembly cleaner | |||
23 | Install in the reverse order
Danger | Risk of accident when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. | Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.
24 | Depress brake pedal several times until brake pads (10) rest against brake disks (9) | Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
| Check | ||
25 | Check fluid level in brake fluid expansion reservoir
| |||
26 | Carry out brake test on the test stand
