The following special tool is used: tension spring balance (3)

Wind a cord around the differential housing several times.

Use a tension spring balance (03) to determine tractive force. Measured value must match specified friction value.
If the specified value is exceeded or not attained, adjust the friction coefficient (= preload of the differential bearings) by installing thicker or thinner shims as appropriate.
