1 | Remove brake carrier with brake caliper. | ||
2 | Lock differential lock mechanically. | ||
3 | Remove rear axle shaft (9). | ||
4 | Release and remove outer slotted nut (7). | Claw-type wrench | |
5 | Remove lock washer (6) and detach inner slotted nut (5). | Claw-type wrench | |
6 | Remove wheel hub (3) and outer tapered roller bearing (4). | ||
7 | Remove radial shaft sealing ring (2). | ||
8 | Remove spacer ring (10) from wheel hub (3). | ||
9 | Remove thrust ring (1). | Pop off the thrust ring (1) with a chisel and remove. | |
| Install | ||
10 | Clean sitting surface of thrust ring (1) on axle tube. | ||
11 | Insert new spacer ring (10) into wheel hub (3). | ||
12 | Install new radial shaft sealing ring (2). | Drift | |
13 | Slide wheel hub (3) onto axle tube. | Do not damage the sealing lip of the radial shaft sealing ring (2). | |
14 | Apply a thin coating of grease to outer tapered roller bearing (4) and install. | MB multipurpose grease, 400 g | |
15 | Tighten inner slotted nut (5). | To do so, continuously turn the wheel hub (3) and strike the wheel hub (3) a few times with a rubber hammer in a crosswise pattern so that the tapered roller bearings make contact with zero clearance. | |

16 | Loosen inner slotted nut (5) again by approx. 1/4 turn. | Claw-type wrench | |
17 | Inspect wheel bearing play. | ||

18 | Apply a thin coating of oil to lock washer (6) and slide onto axle tube. | The locking pin of the locking plate (6) must point outwards. | |
19 | Tighten outer slotted nut (7). | Slotted nut to wheel hub | |

20 | Check wheel bearing play again. | ||

21 | Lock outer slotted nut (7). | Hammer locking plate (6) into suitable grooves of the inner slotted nut (5) and outer slotted nut (7). | |
22 | Clean sealing surface on wheel hub (3) and on flange of rear axle shaft (9) and coat with sealant. | Omnifit sealantFD10-1042 | |
23 | Install rear axle shaft (9) with new screws (8). | Bolt, rear axle shaft to wheel hub | |
24 | Mechanically release differential lock. | ||
25 | Install brake carrier with brake caliper. |
