Remove brake carrier with brake caliper

Release and unscrew outer slotted nut (1)

Remove locking plate (2) and unscrew inner slotted nut (3)

Detach planetary hub gear (4) with planetary hub gear carrier (5)

Remove retaining ring (6) from planetary hub gear (4)

Remove outer planet carrier (5) from planetary hub gear (4)

Detach rear wheel hub (8) and outer tapered roller bearing (7)

Remove radial shaft sealing ring (10)

On version with one radial shaft sealing ring installed

Remove outer radial shaft sealing ring (10.2) and inner radial shaft sealing ring (10.1)

On version with two radial shaft sealing rings installed

Remove cover panel (9) from rear wheel hub (8)

Detach thrust ring (11) from axle tube

 Release thrust ring (11) with a chisel and remove.



Install

Clean seat surface of thrust ring (11) on axle tube

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects.

Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.

Heat up new thrust ring (11) to approx. 80 °C and push all the way onto axle tube

 Press on thrust ring (11) until it has cooled down sufficiently that its installation position no longer changes.

Insert cover panel (9) into rear wheel hub (8)

Install inner radial shaft sealing ring (10.1) and outer radial shaft sealing ring (10.2)

 Only these two radial shaft sealing rings may now be installed.

13 t and 16 t rear axle

Push rear wheel hub (8) onto axle tube

 Do not damage sealing lips of radial shaft sealing rings.

Install outer tapered roller bearing (7)

Push planetary outer gear carrier (5) onto axle supporting tube

Tighten inner slotted nut (3)

 Continuously turn the rear wheel hub (8) and apply a few strikes with a rubber hammer to the rear wheel hub (8) in a crosswise pattern so that the tapered roller bearings come into contact with zero clearance.



Re-loosen inner slotted nut (3) by approx. 1/4 turn.

Inspect wheel bearing play

 Adjust wheel bearing play if necessary.

Slightly grease locking plate (2) and mount on axle tube

The locking pin of the locking plate (2) must point outward.

Tighten outer slotted nut (1)



Check wheel bearing play again

 Adjust wheel bearing play if necessary.

Secure outer slotted nut (1)

 Hammer locking plate (2) into suitable grooves of the inner slotted nut (3) and outer slotted nut (1).

Push planetary hub gear (4) on to outer planet carrier (5)

Install locking ring (6) into planetary hub gear (4)

 The retaining ring (6) secures the planetary hub gear (4) to the outer planet carrier (5).

Install ABS sensor
