Remove/install rear wheel hub

Removing

Remove brake drum

Drain oil from rear wheel hub (8)

 Collect oil in a suitable container. Observe disposal regulations.

Remove rear axle shaft

Release and unscrew outer slotted nut (1)



Remove locking plate (3)

Unscrew inner slotted nut (4)

 Use a suitable tool to secure rear wheel hub (8) to prevent it from falling down. When unscrewing the inner slotted nut (4) with the slotted nut wrench (2) the rear wheel hub (8) is simultaneously pulled off the wheel carrier.



Remove support disk (5)

Remove outer tapered roller bearing (6)

Detach rear wheel hub (8) from wheel carrier

Remove cassette-type sealing ring (11)

Detach inner tapered roller bearing (10)



Checking

Check rear wheel hub (8), outer tapered roller bearing (6) and inner tapered roller bearing (10) for wear

 If necessary, disassemble and repair rear wheel hub (8): 

Install

Insert inner tapered roller bearing (10) in the rear wheel hub (8)

 Oil inner tapered roller bearing (10).

Install cassette-type sealing ring (11)

 Observe installation depth of cassette-type sealing ring (11) otherwise leaks can occur at the rear wheel hub (8).

Wet inside diameter of cassette-type sealing ring (11) and sealing surface of wheel carrier with spirit

 This makes it easier to assemble the rear wheel hub (8) on the wheel carrier.

Slide rear wheel hub (8) onto wheel carrier

 Do not tilt over the rear wheel hub (8) when pushing onto the wheel carrier otherwise the lip of the cassette-type sealing ring (11) may become damaged

Install outer tapered roller bearing (6) in rear wheel hub (8)

Oil outer tapered roller bearing (6)

Slide support disk (5) onto wheel carrier

Screw on inner slotted nut (4)

 The chamfer of the inner slotted nut (4) must point outwards.



Perform basic setting of wheel bearings

Measure wheel bearing play of rear wheel hub (8), adjust if necessary
