Danger ! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
| Remove | ||
1 | Remove drive shaft. | ||
2 | Remove brake disk | ||
3 | Remove rpm sensor from steering knuckle
Do not remove the electrical wiring harness.
4 | Attach tools for removing wheel hub (1) as shown | To do so, use the removal claw and enclosed screws/bolts. The cutout on the removal disk must rest against the adjusting device of the parking brake.
Extraction and insertion tool
5 | Remove wheel hub (1) | For this purpose, screw in bolts. The old wheel bearing (2) is destroyed in the process; the wheel hub (1) can be used again.

6.1 | Remove snap ring of wheel bearing (2) | MODEL 639.### ## as of 673614
6.2 | Make notches on marked webs on circumference of clamping ring (3) as shown | MODEL 636, 639.### ## up to 673613
| |||
7 | Attach tools for removing wheel bearing (2) as shown | To do so, use a small retaining disk, threaded rod, knurled nut and removal sleeve together with the hollow piston cylinder, hand pump and hydraulic hose (complete). The collar of the small retaining disk must point toward the vehicle.

Hand pump | |||
Hydraulic hose (complete)
8 | Remove wheel bearing (2) | The clamping ring (3) is destroyed when the wheel bearing (2) is removed. The hollow piston cylinder must be repositioned repeatedly owing to the small stroke.
9 | Remove shield plate of drive shaft | The shield plate can be used again.
10 | Clamp wheel hub (1) in vise
11 | Detach bearing race from wheel hub (1)
To do so, release the bearing race with chisel blows, then position the tools as shown and detach the bearing race.
Puller, two-arm | |||
Puller arms | |||
| Clean | ||
12 | Clean bore in steering knuckle and wheel bearing seat | Remove any remnants of clamping ring (3) if necessary.
| Check | ||
13 | Check bore surface in steering knuckle for damage | If severe score marks, cracks or notches are detectable the steering knuckle must be replaced: To install the new wheel bearing (2), the bore surface must be clean and free from grease and oil. Do not use any lubricants when installing.
| Install | ||
14 | Attach tools for installing wheel bearing (2) as shown
To do so, use a large retaining disk, threaded rod, knurled nut, pilot bushing and large pressure plate together with the hollow piston cylinder, hand pump and hydraulic hose (complete).

Hand pump | |||
Extraction and insertion tool
Hydraulic hose (complete)
15 | Install new wheel bearing (2) partially | Install the wheel bearing (2) up to approx. halfway. The hollow piston cylinder must be repositioned repeatedly owing to the small stroke.
16 | Install new clamping ring (3) as shown | MODEL 636, 639.### ## up to 673613
To do so, the tools for installing the wheel bearing (2) must be partially removed.
17 | Reattach tools for installing wheel bearing (2) | Do not use the pilot bushing again.

Hydraulic hose (complete)
18 | Install new wheel bearing (2) completely | The hollow piston cylinder must be repositioned repeatedly owing to the small stroke.
| Check | ||
19 | Check that clamping ring (3) is seated correctly | MODEL 636, 639.### ## up to 673613
To do so, turn the clamping ring (3) slightly using a suitable tool and check that it is correctly seated; reposition the clamping ring (3) if necessary.
| Install | ||
20 | Install snap ring | MODEL 639.### ## as of 673614
21 | Attach tools for installing wheel hub (1) as shown | To do so, use a small retaining disk, threaded rod, knurled nut and large pressure plate together with the hollow piston cylinder, hand pump and hydraulic hose (complete).
