Remove

Remove the axle shaft (9)

Remove the brake drum (8) from the wheel hub (2)

On rear axles with wheel hub separated from the brake drum.

Unlock the lock plate (5) and remove the groove nuts (6) (4)

 Claw-type wrench

Remove the guard plate (3)

Remove the wheel hub (2)

 The rear wheel hub can also be removed together with the brake drum.

 Puller

Remove, from the wheel hub (2), the wheel fastening bolts (7)

If it is necessary to replace the bolts (7):



Utilize a pliable material pin for removal.

Remove the radial ring seal and the inner tapered bearing from the wheel hub (2)



Check

Check the wear the friction surface of the race ring (1)

In case of damages, wear or furrows on the friction surface:



replace the race ring (1)



Install

Install the thrust ring (1)

Install the inner tapered bearing and the radial seal ring in the wheel hub (2)

 Use a new radial retainer.

 Lubricate the bearing with grease.

Grease, DB supply specification 6804 - Class 267.0

Install the bolts (7) on the wheel hub (2)

Only if replaced.

Install the wheel hub (2)

 Installation:
Install with care:
To not damage the axle race and the radial seal ring.

 Lubricate the contact surface of the race ring and of the radial seal ring.

Install the outer taper roller bearing

 Lubricate the bearing with grease.

Grease, DB supply specification 6804 - Class 267.0

Install the guard plate (3)

Install the grooved nut (4), the locking plate (5), and the grooved nut (6)

Adjust the wheel hub bearings axial clearance

Lock the grooved nuts (4) (6) with the locking plate (5)

Install the brake drum (8)

Only if it has been removed.

Remove/install brake drum.
