1 Select two whole compensating rings (1) of identical thickness and push them between the two outer bearing races (2 and 3).
The compensating rings (1) must fit snugly between the two outer bearing races (2 and 3) but without excessive pressure.
Compensating rings are available in a variety of thicknesses in graduations of 0.02 mm.

2 Split one of the selected compensating rings at the joints provided (arrows) and thoroughly deburr the broken edges.

3 Oil both tapered roller bearings with transmission oil.
4 Insert the split compensating ring (1) between the two outer races (2 and 3). Spin the bearings by hand.
5 Then check that the tapered roller bearings can still be spun by hand.
If the largest available compensating ring is insufficient, disassemble the drive pinion and install the next smallest spacer ring.
