Dial indicator
The gear backlash of the differential side gear depends on the thickness of the pressure plate which is inserted between the differential side gear and the upper section of the differential housing. A 2.35 mm thick pressure plate has to be installed before starting this measurement.
1 Attach dial indicator (2) with dial indicator holder (3) to the upper part of the differential housing (4).
2 Attach dial indicator tip with preload to the differential side gear (1).
3 Move differential side gear (1) upwards and downwards and in the process read off and note the axial play on the dial indicator (2).
If the axial play ("A") is 0.30 mm, then the correct pressure plate (5) has been installed.
If the axial play ("A") is > 0.30 mm, the installed pressure plate (5) has to be removed and a suitable pressure plate (5) has to be installed to match the measured axial play ("A").
4 Select thickness of pressure plate (5).
