Remove/install

Remove brake calipers of front axle with lines connected and secure against falling down.

Remove lower engine compartment lining at rear and center.

Mark position of propeller shaft (1) relative to flange (4) of front axle differential and to flange of transfer case.

 To be able to reproduce the original position when installing components.

Remove propeller shaft (1).

Measure and note total friction torque of drive pinion.

Mark position of flange (4) relative to primary shaft and front-axle housing.

Remove collar nut (3) from flange (4).

 Installation: Replace collar nut (3).
Tighten the collar nut (3) in stages until the measured and noted-down total friction torque is reached.

Remove flange (4).

Using suitable tool, pry radial shaft sealing ring (5) out of front axle differential.



Do not damage the sitting surface of the radial shaft sealing ring (5).
Otherwise leaks may occur.

 Installation: Install a new radial shaft sealing ring (5).
Coat the sealing lip of the radial shaft sealing ring (5) with universal hypoid gear oil.
Use drift (6) to press radial shaft sealing ring (5) into front axle differential.

Install in the reverse order.



Check oil level in front axle differential, correct, if necessary.
