Remove

Remove propeller shaft from front axle differential (1).

Drain oil from front axle differential (1).

Unscrew collar nut (4m) and remove adjusting ring (4a) from drive flange (4).


To counterhold,place an  assembly wedge between the breaker bar and the front axle carrier.
Otherwise damage will occur.

 Counterhold the  retainer wrench with the breaker bar.
Fasten  retainer wrench on drive flange (4) with only one screw.

Mark position of drive flange (4) relative to primary shaft (5).

Pull off drive flange (4).

 Puller

Pry radial shaft sealing ring (2r) out of front axle differential (1) using a suitable tool.


Do not damage the seat of the radial shaft sealing ring (2r).
Otherwise the front axle differential (1) will leak.

Check seat of radial shaft sealing ring (2r) for damage.

If damage is found,



replace front axle differential (1).

Install

8.1

Fill front axle differential (1) with hypoid gear oil.

 Replace seal.

 Replace drain screw.

Fill front axle differential (1) via opening of filling screw with hypoid gear oil.

Coat sealing lip of radial shaft sealing ring (2r) with transmission oil.



Universal hypoid gear oils (specification 235.7)

 Replace radial shaft sealing ring (2r).

Drive radial shaft sealing ring (2r) into front axle differential (1) using drift.

Install drive flange (4).

 Observe marking for installation position.

Check adjusting ring (4a) for damage.

If damage is found,



Replace transfer case.

Push adjusting ring (4a) onto primary shaft (5).

 The adjusting ring (4a) determines the bearing preload of the drive pinion.

Attach drive flange (4) and tighten collar nut (4m).


To counterhold,place an  assembly wedge between the breaker bar and the front axle carrier.
Otherwise damage will occur.

 Replace collar nut (4m).

 Counterhold  retainer wrench using breaker bar.
Fasten  retainer wrench on drive flange (4) with only one screw.

Install propeller shaft onto front axle differential (1).

 Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test.

Check front axle differential (1) for leak tightness.

Install center and rear lower engine compartment lining.
