Remove bolts (2s).

Pull pinion housing (2) out of front axle differential (1).

Install

Clean thread of drain screw in housing of transfer case (1).

Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray

Screw drain screw into front axle differential (1) and tighten.

 Replace seal.

 Replace drain screw.

 Front axle transmission drain screw

Fill front axle differential (1) with hypoid gear oil.

Fill front axle differential (1) via opening of filling screw with hypoid gear oil.

Insert pinion housing (2) into front axle differential (1).


Insert pinion housing (2) with the utmost care into front axle differential (1).
Otherwise, the sealing ring (2d) will be damaged.

 Replace sealing ring (2d) and coat with vaseline.
To maintain the flow of oil in the pinion housing (2), the milled area (f) must face upwards.

Screw in bolts (2s).

With VAG 160

 Collar bolt, retaining plate to front axle differential

Install propeller shaft onto front axle differential (1).

Observe tightening torque.
Otherwise there will be noise development and vibrations in the front axle transmission (1).

 Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test.



Check

Check front axle differential (1) for leak tightness and proper operation.

Install center and rear lower engine compartment lining.
