Remove/install torque converter

 Caution

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Remove torque converter

Move automatic transmission to vertical position.

Remove cable ties from torque converter.

 Attach assembly device (2) to torque converter.

Adjust height of  assembly device (2) at knob (1) so that it can be slided in the direction of the arrow (B) via the guide (A) of the torque converter.

 Turn assembly device (2) clockwise until the guide (A) contacts the  assembly device (2).

Tighten knob (1) until the guide (A) engages into the  assembly device (2) as shown (arrow C).

Remove torque converter without tilting.

Drain transmission oil from the torque converter through a clean cloth.

If shavings are present in the cloth,



replace torque converter.

Insert torque converter carefully and without tilting it with the aid of the  assembly device (2).

 Do not use force.
Otherwise the axial end stop on the torque converter will be damaged.

 Do not damage radial shaft sealing ring (4).
Otherwise leaks and damage can occur at the transmission.

 Ensure torque converter is correctly seated.
Otherwise the transmission and oil pump will be damaged.

 Turn torque converter so that cutouts of driver (3) engage into drive spigots of oil pump.

 Detach assembly device (2) from torque converter.

Check that torque converter is seated correctly

 Place parallel gauges (01) onto  support fixture (5).

Position digital vernier caliper onto  parallel gauges (01).

Move dipstick (6) of digital vernier caliper downward until dipstick (6) contacts surface of  support fixture (5).

Calibrate digital vernier caliper to value of 0.

Position digital vernier caliper on  parallel gauges (01) directly over edge of carrier flank (arrow D).

Move dipstick (6) of digital vernier caliper downward until dipstick (6) contacts edge of carrier flank (arrow D).

Add the measured value as an amount to the specified dimension (F) of the  support fixture (5) and compare with the specified value. 

 Dimension (F): 16 mm.

If the measured value does not match the specified value,



reinsert torque converter.

 Remove parallel gauges (01) from  support fixture (5).

Secure torque converter with cable ties to prevent it from falling out.

20

Apply a little multi-purpose paste to bearing journal of torque converter.
