Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Release parking brake

Disconnect ground line from battery

 Insulate clamping device of the ground line in order to prevent inadvertent contact with the ground point of the battery.

Detach front propeller shaft (4) from transfer case (2)

Vehicles with 4MATIC

 Mark front propeller shaft (4) relative to propeller shaft flange using colored pencil or chalk.

 Installation: Observe tightening procedure for front propeller shaft (4).

Disconnect automatic transmission/intelligent servo module (X22/6) connector at intelligent servo module (A80)

Prop up transmission and secure against falling down.

Remove engine crossmember (1)

 The rear engine mount remains on the transmission.

Remove bolts (5)

 Installation: Replace bolts (5).



Remove intelligent servo module (A80) with bleed hose

 When reusing the intelligent servo module (A80) do not detach bleed hose. Leaky separation points result in water entry.

Twist the range selector shaft (3) of the transmission counterclockwise up to the end stop on position "D" (arrow)

When replacingthe intelligent servo module (A80).

 The new intelligent servo module (A80) is on position"D" (arrow). (condition as supplied)

 When replacing intelligent servo module (A80) replace bleed hose.

 Installation: The positions of the range selection shaft (3) and intelligent servo module (A80) must match up, rotate range selection shaft (3) if necessary.



Install in the reverse order

Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, read out fault memory and erase if necessary

Using STAR DIAGNOSIS, perform initial startup of intelligent servo module (A80)

After replacing intelligent servo module (A80).
