Adjusting sleeve
1 | Place spacer ring (5) on bearing collar. |
2 | Preload tapered roller bearings using adjusting sleeve (3). While doing so, turn constant speed gear 2 gearwheel (6) several times. |
The tapered roller bearings are sufficiently preloaded when the 2 (6) becomes difficult to turn. |
3 | Loosen adjusting sleeve (3) slightly. |
4 | Turn constant speed gear 2 (6) several times while tapping the constant speed gear 2 (6) using a plastic mallet. |
This releases stresses. |
5 | Screw on adjusting sleeve (3) again slightly by hand. |

6 | Attach dial indicator (1) to adjusting gauge (2). |
If the pin of the dial indicator (1) is too short, use the extension. |
7 | Attach adjusting gauge (2) to adjusting sleeve (3) so that it slides. |
8 | Use dial indicator (1) to measure to collar of main shaft (4). |
9 | Set dial indicator (1) to zero. |
10 | Use dial indicator (1) to measure to spacer ring (5) or to collar of tapered roller bearing in constant speed gear 2 gearwheel (6). |
Results in dimension A. |
11 | Calculate thickness of shim (8) to be inserted. |
Dimension A - 0.20 mm = thickness of shim to be inserted. |

12 | Pull off constant speed gear 2 gearwheel (6) using suitable pull-off device up to an end play of approx. 1.0 mm. |
13 | Fit calculated shim (8) and pressure plate (7) on collar of journal. |
14 | Attach dial indicator (1) to adjusting gauge (2). |
15 | Attach adjusting gauge (2) so that it slides on adjusting sleeve (3). |
16 | Position dial indicator (1) on ground surface of constant speed gear 2 gearwheel (6) and turn constant speed gear 2 gearwheel (6) approx. 20 times. |
17 | Set dial indicator (1) to zero. |
18 | Turn constant speed gear 2 gearwheel (6) briefly to right/left and while simultaneously pushing up/down (A, B), read off bearing play on dial indicator (1). |
Do not use a screwdriver or assembly lever to press the constant speed gear 2 gearwheel (6) up and down. |
19 | If there is any deviation, correct using appropriate shim (8) and repeat measuring procedure. |
An end play near the lowest tolerance limit should be aimed for. |
