1 Measure vertical distance from end face of outer race of front tapered roller bearing to end face of countershaft gear using a depth gauge .
- The test value is used to determine the size of the shims for the front bearing cap. This is a basic setting for the countershaft (for gear backlash between countershaft and main shaft).
- The specified end play of the countershaft is set after determining the necessary shims in rear bearing cap.
2 Determine shim thickness:
The thickness of the shims corresponds to the difference between the measured value and specified value.
The measured value must not be larger than the specified value. If this is the case the countershaft setting cannot be corrected using shims.
