1 Position dial gauge holder with dial gauge on outer race of cylindrical roller bearing, position tip of dial gauge on face of front section of transmission housing. Preload dial gauge and set scale to "0".
Do not turn scale of dial gauge further.

2 Lay gasket on input shaft bearing cap.
3 Position dial gauge holder with dial gauge on gasket of input shaft bearing cap. Position tip of dial gauge on lay-on surface of cylindrical roller bearing in input shaft bearing cap and read off test value.
4 Select suitable shims for end play.
Thickness of shims:
Test value minus specified end play.
