AR18.00-T-0025A | Measure oil consumption | 27.3.98 |
ENGINE 441.980 in MODEL 613.355 /364 /365
ENGINES 402.970, 446.938 in MODELS 613.455 /485
| Inspecting | ||
1 | Inspect engine for external oil loss | Eliminate any leakages
2 | Engine - oil and filter change | Engine oil and filter change: - The oil consumption test run must only be conducted with fresh engine oil; for this reason carry out engine oil change prior to the oil consumption test run. It is not necessary to change the engine oil if the last oil change was not more than one month previously, or if the vehicle has not been driven more than 1000 km since the last engine oil change. - Do not re-install engine compartment encapsulation below oil pan as engine oil must be drained again during the course of the engine oil consumption measurement! - Do not extract engine oil, but drain at the oil pan! Refer to Maintenance Manual
3 | Park vehicle on a flat place and mark position of vehicle on parking place | The vehicle must be parked in the same position after the consumption test run.
4 | Prepare a clean vessel and weight the empty vessel
Danger! | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury from contusions and burns if you insert your hands into the engine when it is started or when it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself.
5 | Warm up engine | Coolant temperature should be approx. 60 - 100 °C
6 | Move manual throttle knob to Stop position | Check whether the throttle control lever at the injection pump is in the 'Stop' position.
7 | Unscrew oil drain plug at oil pan, drain engine oil | Do not extract engine oil, but drain at the oil pan into the vessel prepared previously, over a period of about Refer to Maintenance Manual
8 | Screw in oil drain plug of oil pan and tighten | Replace seal of oil drain plug, clean oil drain plug.
| |||
Danger! | Risk of explosion if ignition takes place, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling fuel vapors or swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to skin and eyes exposed to fuel. | No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.
9 | Fill fuel tank up to about 2 cm below the edge of the filler neck and mark the exact level of the fuel.
10 | Weigh the vessel with the drained oil | Measuring accuracy to one gramme. Note weight measured.
11 | Adjust the actual quantity of oil of the specific filling to the specified weight. | The weight of the oil is obtained from: Weight of 'oil + vessel' - weight of 'vessel'
12 | Carefully pour the weighed quantity of oil through the oil filler neck into the engine | The vessel is still required during the course of the measurement.
13 | Conduct test run | Conduct test run over a measured distance of approx. 200 km. If the measurement is conducted by the workshop personnel, take into account the operating conditions of the vehicle at the customer's.
14 | Park vehicle again on the marked position
15 | Move manual throttle knob to Stop position | Check whether the throttle control lever at the injection pump is in the 'Stop' position.
16 | Unscrew oil drain plug at oil pan, drain engine oil | Drain engine oil into the vessel used previously, over a period of about Refer to Maintenance Manual
17 | Screw in oil drain plug of oil pan and tighten | Replace seal for oil drain plug and clean oil drain plug.
| |||
18 | Weigh the vessel with the drained oil | For determining the oil consumption: Difference in weight between the measurements prior to and after the test run.
19 | Fill up fuel tank up to the same level prior to the test run | Determine in this way the quantity of fuel consumed during the test run (quantity of fuel poured in).
20 | Calculate the index (assignment of oil consumption to fuel consumption) from the quantity of oil and fuel consumed | An oil consumption/1000 km of not more than 1% of fuel consumption/100 km is not a subject for complaint.
