In the case of devices with automatic temperature compensation (ATC), temperature fluctuations of 5...30°C are automatically compensated for.
It is recommended to adjust the refractometer before every checking procedure.
1 Clean the prism (1) and hinged lid (2) of the refractometer (5) using a soft lint-free cloth.
The prism surface should not be touched by hand.
2 Place 1 to 2 drops of distilled water on the prism (1) and close the hinged lid (2) using gentle pressure.
Closing of the hinged lid (2) causes the water to be distributed evenly.
3 See through the eyepiece (4) against a light background.
The scales can be set to sharp by turning the eyepiece (4).
4 Adjust the adjustment screw (3) if necessary using a screwdriver so that the light/dark boundary coincides with the zero line (water line).
5 Carefully remove any water residues from the prism (1) and hinged lid (2).
