 	Remove/install

1	Disconnect battery ground line		AR54.10-D-0003SD
2	Remove trim panel on right cylinder head cover		AR01.20-D-5015SF
3	Remove bolts (1, 2, 4) and shield (3)		*BA09.40-N-1010-01Q
			*BA09.40-N-1011-01Q
4	Remove exhaust gas recirculation pipe from exhaust collector pipe to exhaust gas recirculation bypass flap and press to side	Engine 642.896/898	AR14.20-D-1060SD
		Engine 642.993	AR14.20-D-1060S
		Do not remove exhaust gas recirculation pipe.
5	Remove exhaust pipe (10) on exhaust gas turbocharger (5) and cylinder head (11) and press to side	On engine 642.992/993	AR49.10-D-5500SF
6	Unbolt exhaust manifold (15) at exhaust collector pipe (9)	 Installation: Replace bolts (17) with seal (16).
			*BA14.10-N-1003-01O
7	Unscrew nuts (14) and remove exhaust manifold (15)	 Installation: Replace nuts (14) and seal (13).
			*BA14.10-N-1001-01O
	Checking
8	Check stud bolts (18) on cylinder head (11) for damage	 Installation: Replace damaged stud bolts (18).
			*BA14.10-N-1002-01O
9	Check exhaust manifold (15) for crack formation and damage	 Installation: If applicable, replace exhaust manifold (15).
	Clean
10	Clean sealing surfaces on cylinder head (11)
11	Clean sealing surfaces on exhaust manifold (15)	Only if not installing a new exhaust manifold (15).
12	Install in the reverse order
 Danger!	Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running	Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.	AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
13	Test run engine and check exhaust system around exhaust manifold (15) for leaks
