Check engine management for proper operation

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Clear the fault memory of the engine management (MCM) control unit.

Start engine.

Read out the fault memory of the engine management (MCM) control unit.

 The engine must run for at least 5 s.
No faults may be present in the engine management (MCM) control unit.

Increase the engine speed up to the maximum governed rpm by means of abrupt acceleration, and, once the maximum governed rpm is reached, activate the engine brake.

Switch off engine.
