The piston this cylinder must be positioned precisely at TDC to remove and install the value springs. This prevents the intake valves and exhaust valves from falling into the combustion chamber.s
Removing
1 Place assembly cartridge guide (8) onto cylinder head and secure with bolt provided.
2 Screw detent part (10) into assembly cartridge guide (8).
3 Loosen cotters by gently tapping with drift punch onto valve spring retainer.
W05.30-1051-11
4 Insert assembly cartridge (9) into assembly cartridge guide (8).
5 Hook thrust fork (11) with attached extension on detent part (10) and lay on assembly sleeve (9).
6 Push thrust fork (11) slightly downwards (arrow C) until the knurled screw (9.1) sits below with slight pressure.
7 Turn knurled screw (9.1) in a clockwise direction (arrow A) until the internal cone points are tangibly latched in between the cotters.
8 Push the thrust fork (11) downwards (arrow C) and through and in doing so, bring through knurled screw (9.1).
During this process the valve locks are pressed into assembly cartridge (9) and removed.
W05.30-1050-11
9 Carefully move thrust fork (11) upwards and release the tension on valve springs (5).
The assembly cartridge (9) is pressed upwards via valve springs (5).
10 Unclip detent fork (11) at detent part (10) and remove.
11 Remove assembly cartridge (9) from the assembly cartridge guide (8).
The cotters (3) remain in the assembly cartridge (9).
12 Remove the valve spring retainer (4) and valve spring (5) using a magnetic pin and check for wear.

13 Detach valve stem seal (6) using pliers (12).
14 Clean valve guide (14) and valve stem (13) and inspect for damage.
Replace valve guide (14) if damaged.

Install
15 Lubricate assembly sleeve (15) with engine oil and slide over valve stem (13).
Use assembly sleeves (15) with part number
A000 053 02 54.
16 Press new valve stem (6) over assembly sleeve (15) onto the valve guide (14) and carefully strike with the drift punch (16) until the valve stem seal (6) sits level.
17 Remove assembly sleeve (15).
18 Inspect valve stem seal (6) for damage.
W05.30-1050-11
19 Insert valve spring (5) and valve spring retainer (4) into assembly cartridge guide (8).
20 Insert the assembly cartridge (9) into the assembly cartridge guide (8).
The cotters (3) are clipped into assembly cartridge (9).
21 Hook thrust fork (11) with attached extension on detent part (10) and lay on assembly sleeve (9).
W05.30-1054-11
22 Press thrust fork (11) downwards (arrow C) and hold, whilst doing so, knurled screw (9.1) must also be entrained.
23 Pull knurled screw (9.1) up (arrow D) and out of assembly cartridge (9).
By pulling out knurled screw (9.1), cotters fall down and out of assembly cartridge (9), between valve spring retainers and valve stem end.
24 Carefully move thrust fork (11) upwards until the valve locks engage in the valve stem end.
W05.30-1050-11
25 Remove thrust fork (11).
26 Remove assembly cartridge (9).
27 Check valve locks (3) for tight seating in the valve spring retainer (4) and on the valve.
28 Perform steps 3 to 27 to remaining valve springs (5) and valve stem seals for this cylinder in the same fashion.
29 Detach assembly cartridge guide (8) and detent part (10).
