 Caution

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing engine oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

Remove/install

Remove camshaft positioner

AR05.20-S-7204PB


Never rotate crankshaft while camshafts (1, 2) are installed and timing chain is loosened or removed. The piston on cylinder 1 must be set to ignition TDC.
This prevents incorrectly adjusted timing and thus serious engine damage.

Remove rear cap on cylinder head

Remove camshaft bearing caps

Remove camshaft (1)

 Installation:
Install camshaft (1) such that guide pin (A) is in the position shown.
This basic position prevents damage to the camshaft (1).

 Installation: Lubricate camshaft (1) in the area of the bearing with suitable oil.

Remove camshaft (2)

 Installation:
Install camshaft (2) such that guide pin (B) is in the position shown.
This basic position prevents damage to the camshaft (2).

 Installation: Lubricate camshaft (2) in the area of the bearing with suitable oil.



Check

Check camshafts (1, 2) for wear

 To do so, check height of cam and diameters of camshaft bearing journals.

Outside micrometer

Depending on findings

Replace respective worn camshaft (1, 2).
