Inspect valve stroke

Removing

1

Open engine compartment flap, additional flap and left rear engine maintenance flap

2

Remove cylinder head cover

3

Attach turning device to timing case



Set valve clearance

 Refer to maintenance manual.



Check intake valve lift

Move cylinder to be checked to ignition TDC with aid of turning device

 No pressure on rockers arms; push rods easy to turn.



Install dial indicator holder on cylinder head



Install dial indicator under tension on valve disk of intake valve.



- Observe measuring path of valve lift when adjusting tension.

- Set scale to "0".

Crank engine in rotation direction until indicator has reached maximum value

Read off measurement value on intake valve lift

Checking exhaust valve lift

Move cylinder to be checked to ignition TDC with aid of turning device

 No pressure on rockers arms; push rods easy to turn.



Install dial indicator under tension on valve disk of exhaust valve



- Observe measuring path of valve lift when adjusting tension

- Set scale to "0".

Crank engine in rotation direction until indicator has reached maximum value

 Read off measurement value on exhaust valve lift

Remove dial indicator and turning device



Install

13

Install cylinder head covers

 Replace gaskets.


