Remove/install retaining lock for crankshaft/ring gear

Remove/install

Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Remove bottom part of noise encapsulation

 Only rear part.

Remove starter

Unscrew nut for cover (1)

Take off cover (1)

Vehicles without 4MATIC

Insert retaining lock (2) in starter opening

 Allow retaining lock to engage into the ring gear; crank engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation if required.


