1 Fit on crankshaft bearing caps without bearing shells.
All the bearing caps are fitted into the crankcase from the side. The fit is off-centered so that the bearing caps can be installed only in one position.
The bearing caps are marked with code numbers from the front to the rear and must not be mixed up.
2 Oil crankshaft bearing bolts and tighten fully to specified torque.

3 Measure basic bore in direction A, B and C at two levels (conicity).

4 Unscrew crankshaft bearing bolts, insert crankshaft bearing shells, install crankshaft bearing caps and tighten fully to specified torque.
Pay attention to correct order of crankshaft bearing caps. Do not mix up top and bottom crankshaft bearing shells.

5 Measure crankshaft bearings and note the mesurements obtained.
6 Unscrew crankshaft bearing bolts and take off crankshaft bearing caps.

7 Measure crankshaft bearing journals and determine crankshaft bearing radial play.

The crankshaft bearing radial play can be corrected by replacing the crankshaft bearing shells; aim for the mean value of the specified radial play.
