Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Raise vehicle with vehicle lift

Check universal joints (arrow) of steering shaft for axial play at steering gear and steering column

 Position the screwdriver at the forks of the universal joints and press alternately with the screwdriver and your hand. No axial play must be present.

In the event of complaints:



subject to separate repair order.

Check universal joints (arrow) of steering shaft for radial play at steering gear and steering column

 Have a second person turn the steering wheel at short intervals alternately to the left and right. Simultaneously hold the universal joint in your hand and check for radial play. No radial play must be present.

In the event of complaints:



subject to separate repair order.

Check ball heads (1) and pitman arms (2)

Clean

Clean left and right rubber boots (3) and surrounding area.

Check that left and right rubber boots (3) are undamaged and that they are seated firmly on contact surface.


If a rubber boot (3) is leaky or damaged, the ball joint concerned must be replaced immediately.
Penetrating dirt can cause irreparable damage to the ball joint after a short time.
