Compare tire and rim markings against entries in vehicle registration document to see if they match.

For any subsequent changes, the tire and rim marking is entered in the vehicle registration document or a General Operating Permit (GOP) is provided in the vehicle.
All season or winter tires with a lower speed rating may be mounted. In this instance,an adhesive label with the maximum permissible speed must be fitted in the driver's field of view. It is also not permitted to drive faster than the tire marking specifies.

Position 1: Tire width in millimeters or inches

Position 2: Cross-section ratio (height to width in %)

Position 3: Design ("R" = radial, no specification = diagonal)

Position 4: Rim diameter in inches

Position 5: "C" = tires for light trucks and vans

Position 6: Load capacity ("ply rating")   , replaced by load index.

Position 7: Load-bearing index (Load Index = maximum permissible load capacity of a tire, individual wheel/twin wheels)

Position 8: Speed rating

The given load index values apply only when the tires are mounted on the wheel rims approved for use on the vehicle.
The values refer to a tire pressure of 2.5 bar. The load index drops when the tire pressure is lower.
A tire with a higher value can be used instead of a tire with a lower value.
The tire pressure should be measured and adjusted with the tires cold. An increase in pressure during active vehicle operation is normal, and the additional pressure should not be released.

Tire label

According to the EU Regulation "Labeling of tires with regard to fuel efficiency and other essential parameters", tires for cars and commercial vehicles must bear a tire label.

The tire label contains information on the following tire parameters:

Fuel efficiency (1), depicted by a pictogram and expressed in classes from A to G

Wet adhesion (2), depicted by a pictogram and expressed in classes from A to G

External rolling noise (3), depicted by a pictogram and expressed as noise in decibels (dB)
