Direction of fiber:
When processing fabrics the direction of fiber must be observed. The fabric is woven by the manufacturer at an angle of 90°. To achieve a 45° direction of fiber, the fabric is cut at an angle of 45°.
Areas subjected to tension/pressure, and which are well-lined with fabric material, are laminated with 90° fabric.
The fabric placed at 0° and 90° layers is known as "unidirectional laminate".
Areas that are subjected to angular movement, or which have complicated contours, are laminated with fabrics in a 45° direction.
The fabric placed at 45° and +45° layers is known as "multidirectional laminate".
Use of fillers:
To increase the toughness of the epoxy resin/hardener mixture, Aerosil (silica) can be added.
This makes it easier to apply the lowest layer of epoxy resin fabric (laminate layer) on vertical surfaces. All further laminate layers can be easily applied without the aid of Aerosil.
On cleft surfaces, the resin/hardener mixture can have glass flakes added as filler.
Use of GRP fiber fabric :
The material thickness of CRP fiber fabrics means that they cannot fit tightly in small radii or in narrow gaps.
In this case it is better to use the GRP fiber fabric to be processed.
