The body sealant and underfloor protection must be removed from all the body mounting points of the trailer hitch. The mounting points should then be cleaned with a commercially available cleaning agent. Apply anticorrosion paint to bare-metal areas of the body.
Trailer hitches are homologated safety-related parts and must be installed on the vehicle by trained specialist personnel. Trailer hitches which have been damaged in an accident, by bottoming or by an impact from behind must be replaced; subsequent modifications such as bending, machining, welding, etc. are not permissible.
Otherwise, damage may occur and safe trailer operation will no longer be guaranteed.
The ball diameter of the coupling ball must be at least 49 mm at all points.
Otherwise, the coupling ball must be replaced.
The ball must be greased before use to reduce wear.
For trailers with an anti-swerve device, it is not necessary to grease the coupling ball (see trailer instructions). Advise the customer accordingly.
The micro-encapsulated locking bolts and self-locking nuts may only be used once.
If parts of the trailer hitch are removed, new micro-encapsulated bolts and self-locking nuts must be used when reinstalling these parts.
The customer should be asked to read the chapters entitled "trailer hitch" and "Trailer operation" in the vehicle's operating instructions.
Export countries must observe the respective registration regulations and legal requirements pertaining to the installation of a trailer hitch.
For model 210.025/225 with A/C (code 580) or Automatic air conditioning (code 581) a transmission cooler with blower motor and a blower motor have to be retrofitted for the engine oil cooler. With code 228 Stationary heater the stationary heater must be installed in the engine compartment (see installation instructions for stationary heater)
In the event that the above-mentioned components are not retrofitted, this will render the warranty/goodwill null and void.
Model 211, 215, 220, 221
The control cable must be hung in the operating lever before the transport lock between the crossmember and swivel ball neck is removed. Otherwise the system locks and cannot be unlocked. The ball neck snaps into its two end positions and can only be operated using the cable at the release lever.

P31.10-2569-03
Model 211.0
Check that the reinforcements are installed in the trunk on the left (6) and right (7). If not, the reinforcements must be retrofitted. In the event that the above-mentioned components are not retrofitted, this will render the warranty/goodwill null and void.
On several models the electric fan must be replaced with a more powerful electric fan. If the stated component is not replaced, this will render the W&G null and void.
Model 210
The customer must be advised that fuse 12 in the rear fuse box (F4) may only be inserted when driving with a trailer attached – otherwise another electrical device could discharge the battery while the vehicle is at a standstill.
Model 208, 211
Always remind the customer that fuse 18 in the SAM control unit with the rear SAM fuse and relay module (N10/2) should be inserted in its socket only when a trailer is actually connected.
Otherwise at standstill an external consumer could discharge the vehicle battery.
MODEL 215, 220
The customer must be advised that fuse 55 in the rear fuse box (F4) may only be inserted when driving with a trailer attached
Otherwise another electrical device could discharge the battery while the vehicle is at a standstill.
Model 220
For vehicles with engine 613.960 it is absolutely essential than an auxiliary radiator (10) is installed in the right wheel arch.
Model 221
The customer should be advised to install a more powerful battery (at least 70Ah).
