Conservation of trucks inactive for a long period of time
The following guidelines intend to indicate conservation measures for vehicles that will be inactive for a long term, above 90 days. The goal is to avoid damage from oxidation or corrosion of components, dryness of sealants and rubbers in general, as well as fluids.
IMPORTANT
Before starting the vehicle intervention, check that all necessary safety measures are fulfilled.
Notes
Use the guidelines contained in the Lubricant Booklets, Service Information and Maintenance Booklet, observing the technical specifications for each application.
If the vehicle has an air conditioning system, refer to the equipment manufacturer about the preventive and necessary measures for immobilizing the vehicle.
Fuel system
Fill the fuel tank completely with new fuel. Use only commercially available diesel fuel. Diesel fuel is susceptible to the formation of sludge, algae colonies and the accumulation of condensed water in the fuel tank. We suggest the use of additive A 550 (Additive A550 MB 138.1).
Further details can be found in the documents SI00.40-B-0017A and BB00.40-B-0138-01A.
Battery and electrical system
Turn off the main switch (if any) and disconnect the ground cable from the batteries, perform their analysis and recharge if necessary according to SI54.10B-0017A.
For chassis, regularly check the position of the pedestal and battery protective covers, for proper preservation of the electronic modules and fuse boxes of the vehicles in stock.
Engine
Check if there is enough diesel fuel in the fuel tank to run the engine in order to prevent dry failure (air entering the fuel system).
Exceptionally for engines BR900, every 90 days, check the internal conditions of the engine components - rockers, valve springs, contamination of the engine oil (e.g. with water), engine operation and if oxidation and or failure is found, perform rework or have the necessary components exchanged at a dealer. The assessment of internal oxidation can be done by removing the oil filler cap on the top of the engine, this check is sufficient to determine if there are any abnormalities.
Every 90 days, run the engine for at least 10 minutes to ensure lubrication of its internal components.
Fluids
Every 180 days, check condition and level of engine liquids, ATS (tank of Adblue / ARLA 32), transmission, brake system, differential, steering system, clutch, cooling system, retarder. If there are signs of liquids contamination, replace the contaminated liquid and the respective filtering elements.
Every 360 days, change the fluids of the engine, transmission, brake system, differential, steering system, clutch, cooling, retarder. If there are signs of contamination of the fluids, replace them together with the respective filter elements.
Tires
Increase the tire inflation pressure in approx. 2 bar above the recommended pressure so as to avoid their deformation.
Protect the tires from the action of sunlight. Avoid the contact of the tires with oil or any other chemical that might damage the rubber.
