2 Screw onto the bearing cap on the ring gear side so that the flag is parallel with the ring gear.

3 Fit dial indicator holder (2) with dial indicator (3) onto axle housing (4) and align dial indicator tip with preload vertically to marker (arrow).

4 Set dial indicator (3) to zero.

5 Tighten the opposite adjusting ring (5) with so that dial indicator (3) deflects to the specified adjustment value (before tightening the bearing cap bolts).

During the adjustment process, the ring gear (7) should be turned around continuously at least three times. Tap bearing cap (6) and both sides of the ring gear (7) several times with a rubber hammer (to set and align the tapered roller bearing).

6 Tighten opposite bearing cover (6) to specified tightening torque . The preload must now display the specified adjustment value (after tightening the bearing cap bolts).

Set the lower limit for run-in bearings; the upper limit for new bearings.

7 Spin ring gear (7) several times, check gear backlash and correct if necessary.
