Location
The fuel tank is located in the rear area of the vehicle on the undercarriage and the auxiliary fuel tank (with code K86 (Additional tank 53l)) in the center area of the vehicle on the undercarriage.
Task
The fuel is stored in the fuel tank and the auxiliary fuel tank (with code K86 (Additional tank 53l)).
The the auxiliary fuel tank (with code K86 (Additional tank 53l)) serves to achieve manual extension of the driving range.
Fuel tank function
The fuel pump (M3) draws the fuel out of the fuel tank through a fuel strainer. The fuel pump then pumps the suctioned fuel through the fuel filter to the high-pressure pump.
The leak fuel from the fuel injectors (Y76), the lubricating fuel from the high-pressure pump as well as the de-energized fuel from the pressure regulator valve (Y74) and from the high-pressure pump returns to the fuel tank via the fuel return line.
Auxiliary fuel tank function (with code K86 (Additional tank 53l)
The auxiliary fuel tank fuel pump suctions the fuel out of the auxiliary fuel tank and pumps this over into the fuel tank.
