The selector lever positions "P" and "N" are detected by the transmission mode switch via the electronic selector lever module control unit.

The ETC [EGS] control unit detects the momentary drive position via a contact in the automatic transmission.

The information from the ETC control unit and the electronic selector lever module control unit is sent via the CAN databus to the ME control unit

The ME control unit requires the information for "STARTING", for example, for the deceleration fuel shutoff, the idle speed control, TWC heating and for transmission overload protection.
