The transmission overload protection protects the shift elements of the automatic transmission (722) from excessive thermal stress during load changes in the upper engine speed range.
Engine torque is reduced by briefly retarding the ignition and opening the recirculated air flap (reducing charge pressure) during gearshifts.
The ME control unit is supplied with a signal via the CAN data bus by the ETC control unit for this purpose.
The ME control unit controls in line with performance mapping whether altering the ignition angle is sufficient or if the air recirculation flap must be opened.
