7 | Unscrew crankshaft bearing caps (2, 2a) | Crankshaft bearing caps (2, 2a) are numbered consecutively, starting at first crankshaft bearing cap at front. | |
Take into account the fit. | |||

Check crankshaft bearing cap bolts | |||
Installation: Oil bolts of crankshaft bearing caps at thread and bolt head contact surface and tighten from the inside to the outside starting at the thrust bearing. Turn crankshaft, check for ease of movement. | |||

8 | Remove crankshaft (20) from cylinder crankcase | Installation: Oil bearing shells before insertion of crankshaft. | |
Oil grooves in thrust plates (22) and (23) must point towards thrust collars of crankshaft. Thrust plates (22) in bearing cap have, in each case, two retaining lugs as an anti-twist lock | |||
Install bearing shells at same location; if necessary: | |||

Measure crankshaft and remount in bearings | |||
9 | Install in the reverse order |
