1 Pump element
2 Control drilling
3 Suction chamber
4 High pressure chamber
5 Control edge
6 Shutoff drilling
A Bottom dead center
B Top dead center
C Downward movement
Function
No fuel must be delivered during inertia fuel shutoff (driving downhill) and when the engine is switched off.
The pressure between the high pressure chamber (4) and suction chamber (3) can be equalized through the central drilling in any position between top dead center and bottom dead center (A, B) of the pump element (1).
Bottom dead center of pump element:
Pressure balance as a result of control drilling (2) and control edge (5).
Top dead center of pump element:
Pressure balance as a result of control edge (5) in shutoff drilling (6).
Downward movement of pump element:
Return flow of fuel through central drilling into the high pressure chamber.
