Remove/install

Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between lifting platform columns and position four support plates at lifting platform support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Disconnect battery ground line

Remove poly-V belt

On remove from belt pulley on alternator (G2/2) or on 200 A alternator (G2/5) or on 200 A alternator with LIN bus (G2/6).

Take off bottom engine compartment panel at front

Only model 636,

Model 639.7/8 as of vehicle identification number (VIN) 055347

Detach charge air hose (1) at turbocharger

Disconnect electrical line circuit 30 (B+) (2)

Remove cap for this purpose.

Disconnect electrical connector for electrical line circuit 61 (3)

Remove support brace (4)

To do this remove bolts (5) and a bolt (6).

Remove alternator (G2/2) or 200 A alternator (G2/5) or 200 A alternator with LIN bus (G2/6) downwards

For engine 646.980/981 Push coolant pipes away slightly.

Install in the reverse order

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run

The charge indicator lamp in the instrument cluster indicator must get switched off.
