Remove cylinder head cover (1)

Testing

Position the piston of the first cylinder at 20° after the ignition PMS

Turn the engine with the crankshaft

The 20 ° marking (arrow) on the Poly-V-pulley/vibration damper on the cover of the timing case.

The cams of the intake and exhaust camshafts (2) and (3) point crosswise upwards in the first cylinder.

Check the basic position of the camshafts

Insert the lockout shank (5) in the holes of the bearing covers of the camshafts (4) and in the flanges of the camshafts (arrows)

A deviation of approx. 1/3 is admitted in the diameter of the hole which is due to the elongation of the chain because of use. If appropriate before testing

Re-adjust the basic position of the camshafts
