Remove cylinder head cover

 Installation: Before installing the cylinder head cover check ignition TDC marking and identification of camshaft sprockets relative to timing chain

Position engine at ignition TDC on cylinder 1

Turn engine at crankshaft
 Do not crank engine at camshaft sprocket bolt

Mark position of the timing chain (14) relative to the camshaft sprocket (3) (arrows)

With colored pencil

Remove chain tensioner (6)

Remove stretch bolt (1), washer (2) and camshaft sprocket (3)

While counterholding camshaft (5) at camshaft sprocket (3) using a suitable drift if necessary
 Installation: The identification of the timing chain (14) to the camshaft sprocket (3) must be in line; observe straight pin (arrow)

 The timing chain (14) is secured against turning while the timing case cover is mounted



Remove poly-V belt

Remove spring clamp lever (8) and tensile spring (7)

 Insert tensile spring (7) with color coding upwards

Remove guide pulley (9)

Pull out bearing bolts (10) and (11) using an impact extractor (13) and threaded stud (12)



 Installation: Coat bearing bolts (10) and (11) with sealant

Remove slide rail (4)

Inspect slide rail (4) for wear, replace if necessary.


